Bank of America is about to become much more visible in Dallas’ booming Uptown district.

The nation’s second-largest bank is plugging into an empty building at 2408 McKinney and Fairmount Street just blocks from the landmark Crescent complex. It’s near the Whole Foods Market grocery store and hundreds of rental units.

“We’ll be opening a new financial center retail location there,” Bank of America’s Carla Molina said in an email. “This is part of our continued investment in the network in D-FW and other parts of the country.”

Earlier this week, Bank of America announced that it would be expanding its retail financial centers over the next three years.

“Our financial center strategy is designed to serve our clients when, where and how they choose to manage their financial lives,” Bank of America’s Aron Levine said in the announcement. “Although more clients are using our digital banking capabilities, many still visit our centers for in-person conversations about some of their more complex financial needs.”

Bank of America doesn’t currently have a storefront location in Uptown, one of Dallas’ fastest-growing neighborhoods. The bank has locations downtown in the Oak Lawn district on Cedar Springs Road and in East Dallas.

The new McKinney Avenue location is set to open next year, according to planning documents filed with the state. The two-story building where the bank is located has recently been vacated and was previously a fly-fishing company retail store. The building was marketed for lease by CBRE Group.
