- William B. Travis Vanguard and Academy

DALLAS, TX. — October 18, 2021 — U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in education rankings, just released the 2022 Best K-8 Schools rankings.  One Texas public school, William B. Travis Vanguard and Academy for the Talented and Gifted ranked #1 in Texas for both Elementary and Middle Schools.  This ranking is statewide out of 4446 elementary schools and 1942 middle schools in Texas. The methodology for the brand-new rankings focuses on two areas: math and reading proficiency, or how well students perform on state assessments, and math and reading performance, or how well they perform compared to expectations.

Continuously recognized as Dallas ISD’s Academic Powerhouse, William B. Travis was also recently honored as the #1 Pandemic Proof Elementary and Middle school in North Texas by Children at Risk, a Houston based education research group that measures student achievement, campus performance and growth.  According to Principal Mr. Thomas Brandt, “While this past year has looked very different our talented educators and students kept on going both determined and unwavering.  It’s quite admirable, and they truly are all very deserving of this honor.”

Over the past year, William B. Travis has also been renovating their campus in Uptown, Dallas.  This expansive addition is quite impressive and includes a new library, a dedicated Orchestra and Band Hall, Theater/Dance room, Art/Ceramics classroom and an E-sports game room.  Nearing completion, Principal Brandt was very excited to welcome everyone back in person this school year, but also looks forward to touring interested families for the next school year when applications open in November.
