Congratulations are in order for Milan Basak-Odisio. The DISD William B. Travis Academy student has qualified, again, for the 2019-2020 National Geographic GeoBee State Competition on behalf of the National Geographic Society.
With more than 2.4 million participants, only 4,500 qualify for this prestigious honor to compete at the state level and Milan Basak-Odisio is one of those scholars.
For more than three decades, the National Geographic Society has celebrated young people and made it their mission to educate and empower their learning in the field of geography.
“Young people like you (Milan) make up the next generation of up-and-coming leaders, engaged citizens, and thoughtful decision-makers,” stated Vicki Phillips, Executive Vice President and Chief Education Officer for National Geographic.
With this honor, Milan Basak-Odisio is part of the National Geographic Society’s #GenGeo – a generation of young people who are exploring connections, seeing how complex human and natural systems interact and change over time, thinking critically, collaborating globally, and seeking solutions to help protect our planet.
There is no doubt a bright future is in store for Milan and Uptown’s William B. Travis Academy is proud to celebrate this incredible achievement.
